At Lost State of Mind, our programs Mind in Motion, Bars to Belonging, Empower Through Movement, Therapeutic Thursdays, Chill & Connect, Community Outreach & Workshops, International Exchange Program, Therapy & Counseling blend the transformative power of dance, creativity, art, and mental health education to empower individuals and communities. We believe that emotional exploration—particularly addressing core emotions like anger, fear, happiness, and sadness—plays a vital role in promoting mental well-being. Through interactive workshops, participants are guided to explore these emotions in safe and supportive environments. Dance and creative exercises are designed to channel anger into productive self-expression, helping participants release built-up tension and gain control over their emotional responses. Fear is addressed by fostering resilience and teaching participants how to face uncertainties with courage through movement and artistic expression. Our performances serve as platforms for storytelling and emotional connection. By incorporating narratives around sadness, we offer a space to grieve and express vulnerability in ways that promote healing. Happiness is celebrated through joyful choreography and uplifting artistic showcases that inspire hope and optimism within the community. In our hands-on training programs, we teach participants to understand and express all four core emotions in ways that promote empathy and self-awareness. For instance, anger management techniques may be woven into dance movements, while reflective creative exercises help participants confront and manage fear. Sadness is transformed into connection and support through group activities, and happiness is fostered to create lasting memories and promote positivity. Whether we’re working with juveniles in prisons, students in schools, employees in organizations, or vulnerable communities, our programs are designed to break down emotional barriers and promote healing. By blending art and mental health education, we ensure that exploring and embracing all aspects of emotional life becomes accessible, engaging, and transformative—ultimately helping individuals and communities build brighter, more empowered futures.
Bars to Belonging empowers incarcerated youth through dance, DJ skills, embroidery, and mental health education.
